I LOVE the hard hat design!! Maybe you could just have that on the T-shirt? Archaeology... Viking style...

i know the horns are a terrible stereotype, and the wrath of ness is to be feared more than the viking invasion itself. but i do think it's a fun image!
chas the drawing's great, but on a t-shirt, won't it just look like a big fancy willy? now i'm no viking expert (or willy expert, for that matter), but i don't think all vikings had big fancy willies, did they? especially not the women...

Hahahaha Peta's right it does look quite alot like a fancy willy heeheehee prehaps on it's side it would look more, errr normal.
I quite like the long boat idea, that would look cool as would the buckle... ;D

Wow. I haven't laughed that much in a long time - that last image is... special, just special.
I do like the buckle, but again, I don't think it's recognisable to an outsider (as well as possibly making them think we've excavated a decorated phallus).

What on earth is the fascination with archaeologists and phallic imagery? I can't go one week without reading some article that reduces the entire workings of a complex past culture to phalli. It's just not cricket.

hey graeme, i know exactly what u mean. i specialise in greek stuff, and it's just phalloi this, and phalloi that! honestly, i can't go to a single class without seeing willies everywhere! i had to draw some pottery recently, that had satyrs on it. now they had really big willies! it's just not on!
i really don't want my hungate 2009 t-shirt to feature a big willy. please, toby, no!!!!

okay, if u look closely, u will see that for the word "vikings" i have used little drawings of viking stuff found at hungate. oh, and the viking hard hat and longboat that i did for a laugh. this isn't a serious design, but at least no-one can say it doesn't meet the criteria! peta

I know its not viking related, but as Haverlane has now been removed would it be an option to convert a photo of that? it was a major feature of the site over the last couple of years and many have remarked how 'sad' etc it is that its now been removed...

the problem with the haver lane image (wonderful tho it is) is that it doesn't work very well as a line drawing, which is what's needed for the t-shirt. look: peta

I don't think the Haver Lane thing really works... The Viking lettering is quite cool, but I think I'd prefer to have one image. What does everyone else think?
