Progress had been made regarding this summer (yes it is 2006 already). One major delay was outside of what we at YAT could influence, so we just had to wait for a while.
Over then next few weeks a few things need to be tightened up regarding details but we should be able to have things in place for the end of February. So by that point we should be able to start taking bookings.
As soon as I can announce the site and what we will be doing it will be on here and the YAT website, no other source will be reliable.

Not a star... it is the people here at YAT that make it possible to do things like this and also the people from YMT. EH and the City Council that give us permission etc... that are the stars
I just want to know what i will be doing in the summer months and if it involves working outside in the sunshine with a team of people that enjoy the work.

now come on, you know its hardly ever sunny in britain, last year was an exeption, it seems that st. marys has its own little micro climate, possibly controlled by some ancient magic, which by my calculations was just under geds left foot when he was in his normal standing shouting at me possition. and we were so close, never mind. ok, enough of the random crap. ill go back into my cupboard now.

Summer can't come soon enough for me and one like we had for St Leonard's 2003 would be good, if those in charge could please arrange it. Hardly a drop of rain and some record temperatures, as those of us who were digging on Sunday 10th August will probably recall !

I will admit that I'm posting primarily to avoid deletion, but while I'm at it, kind regards to all of you good people! Looking forward to whatever the stars of York archaeology as well as the weather may have in store for us this year. Take care all!

Yep, what you said Gabe, deletion avoidance and all that. Looking forward to another York experience. Also looking forward to an English Summer. Too bloody hot over here in Aus at the moment (28 degrees C at 4 a.m. yesterday and 42 by lunchtime. I'm melting I'm melting).

It is not the first picture of you that there will have been on the internet...... (joke). To be honest I never selected the pictures, so you will have to look for another person to blame.
Have you shown the kids at school the picture? Shall I? You know you love being an archaeology/media slave.
I always try to wriggle out of those situations. Last week I got a call from a TV company asking me to be an 'expert' on the studio panel for a live investigation (they saw st mary's on the internet). It sounded not too bad until they said it was for a paranormal investigation of the city (Derek Acorah's Ghost City - or something like that). Not that I have a problem with those tv shows, just not my cup of tea. I suggested I might be a bit too honest and 'Yorkshire' with my expert opinions for a live tv show.

No, you can't really turn up drunk for a live TV show. i don't think your employers would approve!
Can't wait to hear more info about the dig this summer, i just want to dig during the day and get drunk on the nights. That sounds like a good summer to me.

Forgot to say, i'm desperately trying to fit pictures of the dig into the school but i'm teaching American civil rights at the minute so i'm not sure how i can fit York into that.
i'm trying to get a job at a school that has the pilot GCSE history course- it has an archaeology unit
And i'm sure you would help me!
I would not expect my picture to be any where on the internet on some dodgy site unlike you Toby!

Hiya Mandy, You owe me a drink and I mean to collect. As to the photo. can't you just tell your students it was York Pennsylvania, home of the civil right movement? What a great gig you've got, molding the minds of the future generation of Newcastle. Tell 'em anything, they'll believe you. you've just gotta say it with conviction. P.S. Check your messages girl. (he said - with conviction) Hello to you Toby. You've just reminded me of something I promised I'd do. Must go and do it. Hope you noticed that I'm sending friends over to be on the dig. Just bullsh*t them and say what a great bloke I am. Do I get a spotters fee? It's Australia Day here on the 26th, I plan to blow out the candles and sing happy birthday to me, and then enjoy a few convivial ales, this will be made all the easier with the forecast temp of 40 deg C. We all get the day off, but I'm thinking of heading to work as at least that's air-conditioned (then again, so's my pub. hmmmm....) Hooroo.

Ello all, and a belated Merry 2006 to y'all. Toby: Apologies that I didn't get enough time over my (stupidly short) Christmas break to get into York. One of these years, I will have that pint... Paul and Gabe: Hope all is well in your respective parts of the world. It certainly can't be any greyer than in bonnie Scotland at the minute :S And Paul; happy Australia Day for tomorrow Mandy: I'm afraid it's me to blame for text and picture selection up til weeks 11 and 12. Still it could be worse - see Ged's balls on week 6. I didn't know the diaries had gone on line - to be honest, after September I'd lost hope... Still, patience is a virtue and all... Back on topic: I'm trying to work out what's happenning this summer, but hopefully I'll be around at least a bit of the time, dissertation and work allowing.
