Yep, 'Up Helly Aa' is a good giggle. 19th century tradition but loads of fun. However, actually getting to Lerwick in late January is a nightmare - have tried in the past and gave up. Always threaten to go. Maybe you'd be up for it one year, Fee?
It's the last Tuesday in January. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, it's TONIGHT! Excellent! ;D

With the 15th galluping up on us has anybody got suggestions about where to meet on Friday evening. My bid is for the Minster inn on Marygate like last time, as I have a seminar on Archaeology Theory( Post-processualism : in Kings Manor until 5pm, and the Minster is just around the corner from there. However if people want to meet elsewhere I would be happy to go along with that.

Hi Keith et al... I've been trying to post here since Sunday and haven't had much joy, so here we go again... Friday 16th, we should be meeting at the Black Swan. Toby, Pam and Elena (hopefully) tend to meet there after 3.30pm for a post-work drink. It will also give people time to meet other members of the digging team on H'gate. I guess we'll stay there until we are either thrown out or arrested or both! There are plenty of activities for the Saturday and Sunday, daytime, most of which are free! As for Saturday night, guess that would probably be the Minster Inn. We can always discuss that when we meet up on the Friday. For those who can only make the Saturday, send me a 'pm' and I'll send you my mobile number, just in case plans change. As for dinner on Saturday night, suggestions are for 'Ol Starre Inn or The Punch Bowl (Stonegate), Jumbos (yes, Neal and Noel - we know). There is also Oscars on Little Stonegate. However bookings, that weekend, are difficult as it is one of the busiest of the year. All we have to do is to eat early - 5.30/6pm. There are a few who do not want a sit down feed. No problem! Last point. I have booked 6 tickets for Bones' lecture on the Saturday 1pm @ DIG. Back in a while....

Yes, it would be good to know who is joining us and when....
As Ness said, I'll be there on the Friday evening (straight from work around the corner ;D ) but I'm not sure about the Saturday yet....

My coach is due to arrive in York at 2.30, so I will probably go and dump my bag at the uni and then try to make contact with people, see what's going on and head for the Black Swan. I WILL NEED TO EAT! Please remind me. That goes for Saturday too. Are the 2 N's (Neal and Noel) still expected? Really looking forward to it ;D - so far 2007 has not got off to a promising start and I need a break ............ G

Having finally got my bum in gear, I'm going to be coming on the Saturday, probably mid-afternoon sometime. I'll just text people when I arrive and see where people are, and what the plans are.

Once again fate has seen fit to dump on me and not let me get to York for said festival reunion, never mind have a pint for me, have several and more!! Hope you all have a great time and I'll be thinking of you, sat in a pub, nice and warm, drinking beer, talking finds and digging and stuff. Mel

I hope to get to the Black Swan for about 5:30 on Friday (or however long it takes me to get across town), full of deep thoughts about archaeological theory, which I suspect won't last for 30 seconds once I get there. BTW I'm hoping to go to the talks on at St Saviourgate on Thursday night is there anyone else in York that night who fancies going along.

Well I'll be making my way straight from work Friday afternoon and by the time I've got across to York and dropped my stuff at the university, I think it will be about 7pm before I get back to the center of York Will have to quickly make up my drinking time Kath

Vx [glow=red,2,300] ***HAPPY 50th BIRTHDAY, PAUL *** [/glow] - who, a). is going to kill me for that (la, la, la ;D), and b). is just heading out to get hammered! No change there then
