Right then.... We will need a t-shirt for the coming season and I want one of you to come up with the image in the middle. Yes it will have the same Archaeology Live! text and logos as before, we just want the central image..... It must be a simple line drawing or something which can be worked up as a drawing for the nice people at the shop. Remember to keep it clean! Here is my suggestion hungate = dog? There is a prize (free T-shirt) that will go to the winner. Mandy.... Please let everybody else have a chance and try not to be too brilliant!

The only thing I can think of would be a picture of a gate that is fully on its hinges (a hung gate ) I did try to draw said gate on 'Paint' but have no idea how to get it onto the post! And the prize for creative thinking goes to....

I must admit that I like that one very much... possibly one for the back?

Okey Dokey. Some more suggestions to get things going (up and at 'em you guys, get the ball rolling. Someone out there must be a photoshop expert) Given that Hungate is a derivative of Hound Gate #1 “Dog Road” (via pwnkle.com/photo_4.htm)#2 Hungate coat of arms: Arms:- Gules, a chevron engrailed between three hounds sejeant Argent. Crest:- A hound as in the arms. Via:- hungate.org/EWHpages/origins.html #3 Mrs L Hungate Party: Conservative Ward: Hockley West Elected: 10/06/2004 Vice-Chairman of the Environmental Services Committee. #4: A Hung Dog I'm sure we could work the Hungate Arms into a design somewhere, and....I'm kinda partial to having Mrs L Hungate as our new unofficial mascot. Maybe we can get her in to cut a ribbon or something.... /Beer goggles working at 200%. //over to you guys. ///you can only shoot at me if you put up your own ideas.

I quite like the dog road idea - it would be pretty simple to draw as well. Attempting to jump on the bandwaggon... - a gate with a sign saying 'Beware of the Dog'?
- some sort of cat-flap-like contraption but for a dog?
- a dog with a bone (trying to tie in the archaeology side of things)?
- a dog with a trowel (trying to tie in the archaeology side of things even more)?
...I think I may have broken my foot when I fell off just then... Toby - as for those "other interpretations", you did say we were meant to "keep it clean"!

My only suggestion would be something like this:

I love it!
Maybe 'Dig a dog a bone'?

Em - I tried that one, but it looked a little odd when written down. Glad you liked

Paul...... do you have a lot of free time? I liked them (but not the hung dog one!)
Emily... they all sound good
Rich.... great but we should either swap the bone to none human looking (we do not want to appear as if we lack respect for human remains) or the same but with a trowel in the hand?

How about something REALLY simple? (okay, so I'm avoiding school work) Don't know if this will work, but here it goes...

Toby - I knew you were going to say that! I'll make a second pass at it holding a trowel sometime (I nearly did, but got too cold in a house of no daytime heating and the trowel looked like a large toothbrush).

I like the idea of the dog holding a trowel, maybe you could make it into a cartoon type dog with hard hat, and fluorescent jacket (or Indiana Jones type getup if you prefer). There might also be some scope for making the dog into an icon/mascot for the excavation like for example "World Cup Willie" for the 1966 World cup (yes I know that was a lion but you get the general idea).

Rick, Really like the hound line drawing you've done, nice and clean and would look good on a tshirt. Just not sure about the quote. Are you referring to the trainees as dogs or that the trainees would find bones for the dog ? (sorry Toby! just joking - sort of..) /Woof //How about Mrs L Hungate holding a bone?
