Hi everybody...
I have had a couple of enquiries about the possibility of having another reunion / get together at the start of summer.
Now this sounds fine to me, but obviously it is not really any trouble as I live in York anyway..... But I know that it would be a lot of hassle and costs for others.
So If people want to suggest any dates (mid-late June?) we can get it fixed in the diary. Since we are starting later on (start of July)
By that point we will have made some very good progress on site and we should be open for visitors. I will also be able to get a behind the scenes visit for people that are around at that time.
Any thoughts?

Yes, I think (purely selfish motive here) the weekend of the 15th June. My birthday is the Saturday and therefore I could spend it with my digging buddies . Otherwise, as you have already said, live in York and can do whatever suits! PS. Toby, see you in the Swan tomorrow. Question to ask!

Ness,
Answer...... You need to use the pointy, metal, end to dig with.
(Is it not jumping to conclusions that I will be in the pub? I may be at home getting ready for the Ballet or Opera, doing some charity work, helping the needy...... ok you got me! I'll see you in the pub)

I have a birthday just before the weekend of the 15th June, and this year it's a big one. I'm not saying which, but it's a bit scary. I would love to spend this traumatic time with my supportive and sympathetic digging chums, but you lot would do! . Ness and I had tentatively talked about a party, and a reunion would be great ;D . Please book it, Toby.

Not quite sure how I feel about my big birthday yet (just 2 weeks to go!) but if I am still struggling with 'it' by June then I'll join you in the support group, Gill ! I may even book a room / someone's floor so I can drown my sorrows or celebrate a new era of my life, whichever it may be ! In any case a Midsummer Madness reunion of some sort sounds fine by me !

Where do you get this stuff?? Of course you are going to say that! You've just has your feet rubbed for 10 days by some nubile creature. No, sorry Pam, it's all downhill at a rapid speed from here on in Start saving for your hip replacements and knee caps NOW!

Pam, It definitely gets better:- -You get automatic respect without earning it -You can wear sandals with socks and look presentable -You have an accumulation of useless knowledge that impresses the hell out of people (how the heck do you know that....) -You can have Nanna-naps any time you want -You can publicly allow gas to escape from both ends of the instestinal track without shame -Don't have to shave any hairy bits - You can seriously say "When I was that age..." -You can ignore people by feigning deafness (or turning your hearing aid off) -And if you don't like it, there's always Soylent Green. Ness - Note the respect bit....

I had to look up Soylent Green on wikipedia.... that bit of popular culture must have passed me by ! I am familiar with Malthusian theory though (did about that at Uni) so I get the picture, thanks Paul ! I had a chat today with a friend who will also turn 40 this year and like me she doesn't feel old and doesn't feel like she can be 40 soon. However, like me she has noticed that in social groups we no longer fit in with the 'young' crowd but neither do we fit with the 'senior' crowd.... So really being 40 is all about being a misfit with a severe case of denial.... My 30's have been pretty good (started new hobbies, got a degree, made a whole bunch of new friends, changed career etc). If Paul is right and "it only gets better" then what the hell, my 40s could be fantastic !! ;D Anyway, about this reunion thingy..... (as I said, severe case of denial..... )

Very, very spooky this. I was flicking through the channels on satellite TV yesterday evening and would you believe Soylent Green was on TCM movie channel ! It was the bit in the movie when people were being scooped up or squashed by digger buckets ..... you know, JCB type things . Like what we have on site again at the moment. Is there something I should know ?? If Toby asks me to 'machine-watch' again this week, should I be worried ?? ;D

So: Toby, Ness, Pam et al - Is there going to be a Midsummer Madness Reunion on the weekend of June 15th - 17th??? Do we need more people showing an interest or do we just go ahead? I'd love it to happen, and it's possible it wont rain in June.......

I like the idea of a reunion; might have bought a house by then too (tempting fate there aren't I, or would that be to say I'd have moved...oops...). I don't have a big birthday this year, mine has a '3' on the end, but I know someone who does... ;D
