As the spaces with the accommodation we provide are nearly full I thought it would be worthwhile putting up information about alternatives. Could anybody who has positive comments (negative ones will be removed) about other places to stay in York please post them in this thread (ideally with a link). Below are the suggestions the I normally send to people when they enquire. ---------------------------------------------------------------- There is a wide range of hostels, university campus rooms, bed and breakfast establishments and hotels for your accommodation in York. They have a correspondingly wide range of prices. For further information contact Roomcheck www.roomcheck.co.uk/yk on +44 (0)1904 621756, or York Tourism Bureau on +44 (0)1904 554455. For the separate university accommodation have a look at - www.yorkconferences.com/section.php?id=20(edited, thank you for the heads up) There is the YHA hostel - www.yha.org.ukYHA York International Water End York YO30 6LP England United Kingdom +44(1904)653147 The Backpackers – www.yorkbackpackers.co.uk/York Backpackers Hostel Micklegate House 88 - 90 Micklegate York YO1 6JX England UK: +44 (01904) 627720 Youth Hotel – www.yorkyouthhotel.demon.co.uk/York Youth Hotel 11 / 13 Bishophill Senior York, YO1 6EF Tel: (44) 01904 625904

Just quick reply - I stayed in the Grange Lodge B&B on Bootham Crescent for a week last year, and they charged me a very reasonable price, and agreed to do breakfast slightly early for me (plus, they do the most amazing english breakfasts - makes a great start to a digging day, or a hungover one...). B&Bs will never be as cheap as the university, but I thought it was a lovely place.

I stayed at The Georgian House on Bootham for a few days last year.
Reasonable price and again good breakfast

Would there be enough interest in accomodations during August and September to warrant YAT booking one additional group flat for the remainder of the season? Is that a possibility?

We actually dropped one of the accommodation houses we have for the last two weeks due to the lack of interest during early bookings. As we had to give the university reasonable notice for the booking it was only safe that we dropped it as we would have lost too much money.
During August there is no possibility for extra accommodation as we only have a few spaces on the site - so if we got an extra house there would be no space for all the trainees.
If we get plenty of notice with bookings for next year it could be that we can do additional accommodation well in advance. I have a feeling that plenty of trainees will still want to take advantage of the other accommodation available in York.
