We had the press on site today, taking photos and stuff. I think it is due in the Yorkshire Post tomorrow (14th). Also, this item appeared on the York Press website this afternoon. tinyurl.com/2ep29k

Just had a look at the York Star (the local free newspaper) and Hungate is on page 2 with a very wierd picture of three archaeologists in full hard hat and reflective jacket regalia trowelling away on a victorian cobbled streets watched by a bemused looking victorian street urchin (the archaeologists have been photoshopped in to the photo BTW). I doubt if even Toby going at full steam could get through the road surface with just a trowel. ;D

Just found this on the 'Dig Hungate' holding page on the Jorvik website. The pic was taken after a snow shower a few weeks ago. I'm the street cleaner in the foreground. We were brushing the snow off, rather than trowelling though! A clever combination of Haver Lane as it was and as it is now. If you look carefully you can see an area of disturbance along the road behind us.
