We started off the weekend with a site induction and a quick review of the archaeology we have already completed. Then it was straight into work on site! Elena had a team working inside a giant cut and filled feature, so there was plenty that needed to be excavated. Gary was working with some of the trainees just to the east. This was where there could have been a medieval oven. .. as well as an unusual structure which may have been a hearth? The trainees working with Ben were looking at pits and features around the back of the Viking building. In some cases it was a little damp, but this did not stop us getting to look at the archaeology. On the Sunday afternoon we had a go at cleaning up some of the finds we had recovered over the last two days. Some medieval pot was decorated with deer, possibly from a hunting scene. Thank you to the team who made the weekend a really good success. Lots of new faces, lots of familiar faces and lots of fun.
