Here are some pictures from the Spring session of Archaeology Live! - www.dighungate.com/content.asp?ID=43We got straight into it on site looking at some of the features around the Viking timber building from last year. This turned out to be a possible well. This was a very shallow feature (probably the bottom of something truncated from above) which when removed made it a lot easier to work out the sequence below. This pit was a little more difficult to get to. It dates from before the Viking house and contained a really organic fill lower down. By the end of the week the team had done a lot of good work in what was lovely spring weather. Into week 2 the good weather continued. We carried on with the recording and excavation of the archaeology across this area. Here the team are looking for the edge of the well and how it relates to the archaeology around. Soil descriptions always cause a lot of confusion at first, but it is amazing how quickly people learn the terms. As there is so much archaeology on the site you get earlier finds in later features. This Roman coin came out of a medieval pit. Thank you to the team for another great week on site!
