Bloody brilliant! I am absolutely delighted for you. I am sure you'll do really well. True, you can't write on a bag to save your life ;D(we did have a lot of fun!), but you took to diggin' like a duck to water. You'll be great Do try to make the reunion, even if it's only for the Friday night. It's always good fun. If not, you better make it to the Viking Festival at the end of February or I'll come looking for you. ;D It's my first week, all a bit scary, and Toby will laugh at this and do his usual 'whaaaaat' cry, but the bloody 'Nature of Matter' course is an absolute killer; there's just so much physics. Can cope with the chemistry but the physics.... Taking Metallurgy and love it. In the lab today, melting copper and making alloys. Came out with all my fingers and no burn holes in my lab coat, you'll be glad to hear

Glad to see you are enjoying yourself Ness. The physics thing sounds bad though...rather you than me ! I have been out doing some 'research' into heritage management / education / public archaeology this week. Dave and I (yes, dragged him away from WofW) spent just over an hour on Tues at Fountains Abbey. Considering it is a World Heritage Site I was very disappointed in the presentation. Not a patch on Rievaulx. A distinct lack of interpretation boards - annoying for those of us who prefer to wander round on our own rather than being herded by a guide (!! ) More could be done to demonstrate how the river was used for the water supply - cutting back the overgrown areas by the culverts and channels etc would be a start. The coffee and cakes in the cafe were nice, but too expensive. Today I had a much better experience. Fortified by a large portion of scampi and chips in the pub next door, I spent a couple of hours at the Ryedale Folk Museum. Great place, lots to see, some fantastic reconstructions (especially the medieval crofter's cottage - complete with central hearth and dirt floor). The kids activities looked like fun. Well worth a visit - the museum AND the pub (which serves a very good pint of Black Sheep according to Dave - I was on the tonic water as per). Housework beckons tomorrow. Ho hum.

Lynne - just want to add my congratulations - I'm sure they wont include writing on small bags with big pens in any of your assessments! Have lots of fun, I'm quite jealous.
Ness - I sympathise with the physics thing - too many numbers (mainly represented by greek letters), and if it gets into the realms of sub-atomic particles it becomes more like religion than a science - just believe! The metallurgy sounds fun, though I bet Health and Safety has banned the most interesting practical activities! I'm jealous of you too.

Lynne,
Well done with the place at Leicester..... Give us all a shout if there is anything that we may be able to help with (unless it is physics!!)
Ness,
I can't actually remember the physics that well?! I did find that the books tended to help when I got stuck... and I am sure there are some good resources on the t'internet. I was lucky enough to have a few mates who were good at the physics stuff.
Pam,
Are you decorating yet? Make sure you call the office re work stuff!!!

Yes, books are helping, but just not quick enough. The really nice thing, this week, is that just about everyone - apart from the guy with the PhD in Maths and Physics (smart ar*e ) - finds these elements difficult and now admits it. In fact we've had rather a laugh over it and this has eased the pressure tremendously. It's a great course and I am enjoying it no-end. Will harass you if bogged down so start brushing up ;D

Fantastic! Did they find that flint piece? Have really worried about that. What else did they find? Hopefully not boxes of stuff. Don't worry about rooting out stuff. I've bought just about every book possible. I know you're busy so will only bother you if suicide is the only option Hope it's all going well. ;D

Many thanks, Toby, for the cd with missing stuff. Seeing the skull photos reminded me that your mention of them: The two skulls that were in the gully backfill was the first I'd heard about them - had all the hard work and fresh air made me nod off at a critical moment? Where was the gully? And I knew that human bones would be found in 'my bit' of Trench 4 after I left! Roll on next year........

Neither, Toby! Have now come to terms with the 'hard sums' (as Luiseach calls them) and the 'Nature of Matter' course. You can now sigh with relief. ;D

I am glad that it is all making sense now, I just had a lot of lucky guesses in the exams!

Don't know if you all have seen this on the main YAT pages I hoped to attend the rather intersting sounding lecture on the 1st Nov (you know, just to heckle and throw the odd rotten tomato etc) but unfortunately I'll have to give it a miss as I've got a temp assignment that day Anyway, just thought I'd mention it here in case any one is interested and around to go.
