I thought site pictures all looked the same-until I saw this one of Clive's.The bloke looks (1) so ashamed and (2) like someone from either Spinal Tap or Tony Anomie (Spelling?) from the glory days of Deep Purple. Who is this man? If anyone can tell me ,they win one of my famous / infamous hand made t-shirts.(Please wash carefully).

I think for the last 2 weeks you should do the ghost walk Ged, you should know it off by heart by now, and could probably put a few extra ghosts in for the money. By the way just how many wives do you have now??? I hope I am still number 1 wife!! See you in York Mel

That would be an easy T-shirt for me Ged, but ! However, it shouldn't be too difficult for anyone else to find where I 'borrowed' it from and who is in the picture. A good start point would be the picture's properties. Clive

I wasn't sure which band he was in (age),thoughI did see them live once many years ago when a friend got us in through the back door at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester [Maybe that's why it was called the FREE Trade Hall]. (Closed now so they cannot sue). Saw 10cc ,Hawkwind,Lynnrd Skynnrd,Badfinger and many more for free in that way. Confession time- I saw the legendary Take That ten times . Has any one else got any dark rock secrets they wanna confess?

Dark rock secrets? I have a few I would like to share (call it therapy if you like) My name is Pam and used to be a rock chick. There I said it. In the back of my wardrobe I still have my beloved biker leather. I also still have the denim cut-off, covered in metal badges and sew-on patches that I used to wear over the top of my leather. In those days the look was finished off with fading concert T-shirt (Saxon, Iron Maiden, Skid Row, AC/DC etc etc), tight black satin-look or denim jeans, knee-length suede boots, bullet belt and studded wrist bands, and tassled Indian scarves around neck and/or waist and/or wrists. I also had longer hair then which was more often than not bubble-permed. I tried to learn to play the bass guitar but the farthest I got was being able to play a simplified version of the bass part of Smoke on the Water.....We did form a band called Viking but we only had 2 rehearsals before the singer threw a hissy-fit and quit. We also got into trouble with our land-lady who threatened to chuck us out for playing the drums in our top-floor flat....that was the end of Viking really......Heavy Metal or what!! Best bits .....getting to meet Biff from Saxon outside Sheffield City Hall....getting covered in various rock legends' sweat whilst headbanging on various front rows.... Donington Monsters of Rock 1986 (my first one)....all the other Donnys.....joining in with the sing-along-a-metal-classics at gigs.... Ahhhhh, those were the days......they were a blast! Pam (feeling much better now) ;D

Thankyou for sharing that with the group"Rock Chick" we have an anonymity policy here at The Dark Side of Rock.Confesions like this are often found to be extremly cathartic and helpful to our members. My second confession-The wierdest band I have ever seen live was called DREAD ZEPPELIN.It was -get this-the music of Led Zep played with a reggea beat as sung by Elvis. The show was fantastic and I have an album of thiers to prove that they really exist because no-one ever believes me. I also saw once, on the same bill at Knebworth 79-Chas n Dave with Led Zep. Chas n Dave were on first,I think ,but this was the seventies. Thankyou,I feel better already. "Dread Ged" If any other members have similar confessions please don't hesitate to keep em to yourselves..No please send them to us at The Dark Side of Rock . Ps if anyone fancies a nice walkies some of us are planning a day out around Buxton in Derbyshire on the 11th September.More details to follow.Ged

After much prompting- I will tell the R.E.M story. When I used to work in concert security I was employed in the pit at the front of the stage at the old Cardiff Arms Park looking after R.E.M and after what seemed hours of pulling feinters out of the crowd I felt a kick in the back of my head.I looked round and Michael Stipe, who had booted me quite hard, was all apologetic. He had been sat on the edge of the stage ,swinging his legs and connected with my head.He sort of mumbled "sorry to the security guy" to an audience of 30,000 and left it at that.He was real upset afterwards back stage, but I told him my claim to fame will be very ,very unusual. I also got to look after KISS on another 'farewell' tour-as fire came out of one of the guys guitars and the pyrotechnics erupted,I happened to catch the eye of the guy who's guitar was spitting flames and he just looked so bored(a sort of " what is a middle aged bloke doing still up on stage" type of look).I have many other stories of the rock excesses of back stage life but you can e-mail me for those.Ged

So Ged, the original "head-banger" eh? Do you notice how the page heading adverts pick up on the message contents, what with mention of Rolf Harris and Black Sabbath? and is it my PC, or is the clock on this message board a mile out? Now I don't have too many rock tales to tell, apart from seeing Atomic Rooster live at Coalville Leics as a student and I used to work with a chap whose niece married John Bonhams son Jason (a drummer also). Apparently the Zeps got together with Jason at the do to play a few numbers, but I never did get to see the pictures. As for Donnington, I was never really into "Stadium Rock" although it was my local race track. But we could hear it from my mates garden in Measham, 5 miles away! We did see Deep Purple up here in Grimsby on the first leg of their recent UK tour. Still as good as ever even without Richie Blackmore and Ian Gillan is carrying a bit more padding nowadays as he sails on into middle age, but aren't we all!
For those about to rock, we salute you! pc

Thanks for that Colin-I know you feel better for the confession,I always do.Other strange tales of rock that happened to me were, being a hairs breadth from being run over by Oasis while manning a gate at Knebworth.Seeing Heather Small from M People in hysterics before she went on stage and helping to calm her down.Actually being on stage at Donnington before any of the bands came on-what an experience.Being personal bodyguard to Michael Flatley-no nerves at all, just said "Lets go to work" before he went on in front of 20,000 people- and I had to have a crate of ice ready for him when he came off to shove his feet in otherwise they would swell up,poor dear.I suppose my great claim to fame that no-one believes me about is appearing on stage with old Pavarrotti at Manchester Arena when I was working there.I was in the choir and when I told the boss the week before he thought it was a wind up until I showed him my backstage pass.Rachel has seen it ,so ask her. Well there are many more tales from the dark side of rock please feel free to write yours here.Ged,friend of ther stars.

It is true... I have seen the backstage pass to Pavarotti Well my dark rock secret is quite awful.... I was a Boyzone fan in my younger years! I even bought all their albums and had a video of one of their concerts. There, I've said it! Maybe I can now start to heal... Rach
