Emily told me that it is possible to get a fieldwork bursary for those aged 16-18 but it says that I would need to get a letter first. Could someone please explain what I need to do? I have only got until the 15th to do it by. It's worth a try. www.romansociety.org/frame.htmClick on the grants page

As far as I know there are Roman deposits on site, but the post-Med, Med, Viking, and A-S stuff needs to be gotten through first. From the grants page it looks like they will only provide bursaries for excavation on actual Roman deposits, but I don't know what depth the training will be reaching this summer. Actually, it says the site should have some link to Roman studies; so you might get away with it?! Toby will be able to help more than me.
If the site will be suitable for bursary application it looks you need to get in touch with Toby and he then needs to write a letter saying you have a place, and specifying what the training is like, etc, and also provide a copy of the risk assessment. This letter and risk assessment comes to you. You then need to write a covering letter stating why you would like a grant, what, if any, other finance you have for the dig, and how much you would like to recieve (I think per week, or possibly in total with a weekly breakdown).
It's also worth seeing if your university department provides fieldwork grants for summer digging. I know Edinburgh does; it's not much but anything is often better than nothing.

From looking at the reports someone did this for the St Leonard’s dig and I'm sure Emily said she did this last year. I think that my main problem is getting this all done by the 15th. It will be tight if I even manage to. I'll email toby and get his attention lol.

The 15th is a bit of a tight deadline. I'm sure you'll manage it though, you've got time this week to compile everything then post it on Saturday. Good luck!!

Sorted it posted it first class this morning so it should get there on time. Thanks for writing me the letter Toby. I just hope that they accept my application, it will be a great help. I'm incredibly poor this year!
