There's a group of people stay out at the uni and we'll all go into together on the first morning and usually every morning after. We go on the bus, i don't know how much the tickets will be this year but i think last year it was £15 for a week ticket which is useful because we often go back into York in the evenings or at the weekend. The bus is run by First if you want to check their website for prices. Food money varies from person to person depending on where you shop, if you eat out or cook for yourself etc... If you're a student it's however much you'd usually spend... If you're not and you're worried about it do a trial run at home for a few days and see how much you spend. I usually find i don't need more then £30 but then i'm not very good at buying sensibly. Hope that helps and doesn't just confuse you more!

Have just checked the First Bus website for fares (any excuse to not write introductions!!). A First Week is £13; available from PayPoint outlets and the First Bus office, NOT on the bus though. I think you need to be careful to get the right ticket - different one for FTR Ellie?? But anyway, further information can be found here www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/yorkhumber/york/fares/index.phpWith regards for food costs; I second what Ellie has said. If you're cooking at the uni and making a packed lunch then the costs will be about the same as being at home (presuming that's what you do there), eating out at lunc and dinner is obviously more expensive. I think most people tend to do a mix of the two. And there's the weekly BBQ - at least I presume there's one this year...Toby?? I hope that that is some help.

Yes we will be doing a BBQ..... I cannot imagine the week not ending on a BBQ.
I just need to find out a way of training the dog to not join in with the eating off BBQ food (especially if Ness is secretly feeding him on the sly)

I don't remember the ftr ticket being different but then I never caught any other sort of bus so I wouldn't have noticed. Well noticed.

Whilst were on about the accommodation, are there any clothes washing facilities?

I am assuming that the laundrette near the halls will be open? Did people use it last year?
If not we have some big water tanks on site.... (Joke)

The laundry at the uni was open for clothes washing and drying, v. useful if you're there more than a week.

If you are talking about the No.4 bus from the uni to town, it is First bus and does do the weekly tickets. They do a First Week, and a first 10 journey tickets (also First month but that is unlikely to be of interest unless you are doing a long stint), which you can get from the Student Shop next to Cost Cutter on campus. If you don't use it much though the cost saving can be marginal, although on the automated (no driver contact) buses it can be quite handy to just wave the ticket through the sensor rather than to have to fumble about for the exact change.

www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/yorkhumber/york/fares/paypoint.phpA list of paypoint outlets can be found here. There isn't one right at the station, so the one Keith mentions is probably best; get a single to the uni then get a weekly ticket once you're there. The laundrette at the uni is open during the summer; a bit pricy but clean clothes

I have little to no sense of direction, so help would be good.
