Could anybody who has positive comments (negative ones will be removed) about other places to stay in York please post them in this thread (ideally with a link). Below are the suggestions we normally send to people when they enquire. ---------------------------------------------------------------- There is a wide range of hostels, university campus rooms, bed and breakfast establishments and hotels for your accommodation in York. They have a correspondingly wide range of prices. For further information contact Roomcheck www.roomcheck.co.uk/thedms.asp?dms=41&type=town&typeid=1679 on +44 (0)1904 621756, or York Tourism Bureau on +44 (0)1904 554455. For the separate university accommodation have a look at - www.yorkconferences.com/section.php?id=20There is the YHA hostel - www.yha.org.uk/find-accommodation/yorkshire-wold-moors-coast/hostels/york/index.aspxYHA York International Water End York YO30 6LP England United Kingdom +44(1904)653147

I really enjoyed staying at Romley house at the November reunion. Bruce is an ex Alaskan deep sea fisherman (as in the Deadlist catch) and for £30 p night you get a room with all mod cons including bottled water, biscuits, teas etc and breakfast which is full English followed by waffles if you can manage it. Bruce also goes out of his way to be helpful and there is a lounge downstairs you can sit in if you don't want to spend too much time in a room. www.romleyhouse.co.uk/

Somebody coming at Easter is staying at the Acomb Grange Caravan and camping site. The cost for pitching a tent is £5 a night for a 2 person tent and £6 a night for the 4 person tent. The website address for the site is: www.acombgrange.co.uk/. If you google something like camping or accomodation in york, it comes up with a multiple of different options. There are some reasonable priced holiday homes and lodges around the area. Thank you to Keighley for these details

i stayed at olga's guesthouse in october, and got £5 squid off per night for mentioning that i was digging at hungate. the rooms aren't en suite, but they've got everything else u need. it's a nice little bed n breakfast. they treat u well, and u get a nice big breakfast in the morning. olga's is about 30 mins walk to the dig. there are buses, but not many in the evening. if you're driving, though, there are places to park for free nearby. another important point is that u can SMOKE in your room!!!! so don't go there if u don't like the smell of smoke. also don't go if u struggle with stairs, cos it's a converted house with no lift. here's the link: www.olgasyork.co.uk/index.htmi would definitely have stayed there again, if i hadn't accidentally booked myself into the student halls for this summer's dig! peta
