As you can see it was still a bit wet and muddy at the start of the month. However the moisture in the soil gives you really good colours when you are trying to sort out what is going on with the features. The building in the area Ben was working in has been pushing its way into the Anglo-Scandinavian period - but we still can't explain the ?cyst? in the entrance? Here is a picture from the opposite angle. The team did a great job of sorting it out after the poor winter weather. The other building at the east of the site is also pushing itself towards the Vikings! Well at least the bits we have seen so far are. There was another example to the south of this but it had been robbed out or quarried to a far greater extent. From the other side you can just see the possible clay foundation (the corner is just above where Sam has his head) which may relate to a Roman structure? We will only find out my by digging it. Just in case it was feeling left out... the middle of the site had a big rectangular pit which now wants to take the form of another building. Yes, Anglo-Scandinavian for this one as well! Sorry for the slow updates - been busy on lots of stuff in the past few months.
