I will be getting in touch with people that have already contacted me wanting to know about the dig this summer asap.... But here are some more details for everybody else.
The site is in the precinct of St Marys Abbey. It is in the bit that is behind the gallery, up to the tower on the corner of Marygate and Bootham. It could be within an 'annex' to the side of the Roman fortress, there could be anglo-saxon/anglian/viking/anglo-scand (whatever you want to call it) post roman activity, possibly with the rear of properties that face onto Bootham. Obviously we have the stuff that will relate to to abbey and its formal garden and of course there is some interesting post-medieval/modern stuff to look at.
There will be three trainers (YAT staff), three placements and up to 15 students on site at once (5+1 for each staff member). Digging will take place in three areas on site. We are investigating a number of things about its history, and also shifting a lot of soil. Virtually all activities will take place on site.
Public access is limited, so we will not be open like before. Only official visitors will be able to come and look round.
We DO (just confirmed) have access to university accomodation. This will cost from c. £70 per week.
Get in touch if you want more details.

The dig sounds great so far . But when does the university accomadation become available, last year I came to early and had to go in a b&b, nice but a tad expensive. Anybody know of any other cheap, but livable, accomadation i nthe area in early July? Looking forward to digging Phill

Phil,
The university is available from the 19th of July.
The cheapest options I can think of are the Backpackers Hostel and the Youth Hotel. Since we are running in the week it may be possible to get a deal.
This is stolen from last years website. (Alternatively, there is a wide range of hostels, university campus rooms, bed and breakfast establishments and hotels for your accommodation in York. They have a correspondingly wide range of prices; the cheapest, in a 2-4 bedded, shared, youth-hostel, is about £14 per night; single university rooms, about 1 mile from the town centre, are about £21 per night/£140 per 7 day week; and bed & breakfast/small hotels start at about £25.00 per person per night. For further information contact Roomcheck (www.roomcheck.co.uk/yk) on +44 (0)1904 621756, or York Tourism Bureau on +44 (0)1904 554455.)
Hope it helps

I am sure there will be somebody there who has got the brain. I will be providing bad jokes (well lots of training too.. but that is maybe not as memorable as the bad jokes?).
I missed a load of people last year which was a shame. Obviously I have got to be around this year.
I have got a details sheet and a booking form that I can e-mail to you. Just send a message to tkendall@yorkarchaeology.co.uk, and I will send them on.
Get in touch and pass on the information about the dig. The more people who are there, the more fun it will be.
