Could anyone suggest any useful background reading for the dig? I have to produce a lovely 12,000 word report with background to the dig, maps, diary, drawings etc for my rather academic university (this will have equal weighting with a 3,000 word essay). The webpages are useful, but too much internet is one of the things on the frowned on list. We get entire e-mails devoted to telling us not to use wikipedia in essays or else.

Kate,
We will be able to sort out a historical background for trainees/placements to take away with them.

hi
YAT's "yorkshire archaeology today" issue 12 (which has just come out) has several articles about the hungate dig, and since they're all on actual printed paper, u can't be told off for citing them ! i get my copy direct from YAT cos i'm a member. guess u should rummage around their website to find out where u can get a copy.

Thanks Peta that is very helpful. I used to be a member of friends of YAT but cancelled when I moved down south - I will have to see what I can do. Bristol Uni, we get penalised for putting a comma in the wrong place and it is really very irrating. At the end of level 2 we got to go and draw a wall in Wales for practical experience which most of us felt would have been better earlier in the course. When we got there there wasn't enough equipment and I ended up using my own. It was useful to learn about the different levels of recording though. My drawing was ok, but I am bound to have missed out a piece of punctuation somewhere in the write up......

I know this is a really old thread, but I really need a reading list or some sort of somewhere to find out information. I will be taking part in a Dig in August and need to do lots of background research before hand. I really know very little about it all.
