Just got an offer from York ! I'm so confused with where to go now but I know I don't want to go to Birmingham any more. I'm between Sheffield, York and Leicester now. Each one has different strengths. York is the highest ranking university out of them but Sheffield is higher for archaeology and Leicester is meant to have the highest scoring student satisfaction in the country. Too confused !!

Had my interview today and I think it went surprisingly well! It was just a one-to-one and he asked me questions about my A Level choices, why I thought archaeology was important, what was better about studying through archaeology as opposed to textual evidence, and he gave me a picture of a greek pot and asked me to give a critical appreciation of it (although that was mainly because I had covered this topic in A Levels). The whole thing was quite relaxed and he was very encouraging towards my responses and prompted me if I didn't fully understand something or couldn't think of an example to support my point. That would be one thing I would advise - try to only make points if you can readily think of something that you can use as an example. Other than that I would just advise you to be yourself, be enthusiastic and not to panic too much, even if you can't help it.
I've got another one on the 29th too! Where's yours? Good luck for it, but I'm sure you don't need it!

Don't be confused. I wouldn't worry too much about league table type stuff (how do they rate student satisfaction anyway?). What's important is that the course interests you. But more important than that is that it is somewhere you can envisage living (and enjoying living) for at least 3 years. If you aren't enjoying where you are living then chances are it doesn't matter how good the Uni/course is, you won't have a good time. And we all know you learn and work better when you're enjoying it!

It was for UCL, but I have applied for the Archaeology, Classics and Classical Art course and I had studied the particular pot before so it wasn't too bad. If you're just applying for straight Archaeology then I would pressume you wouldn't have to do something like that. . . Well, not a critical appreciation at least! You may be given a find or picture of a find and asked to explain it, what it could have been used for etc, but it will depend on how hard they will be wanting to test you. If they have any sense they will only talk to you about stuff you know to get you talking, which should be their main aim of the interview. Oh and happy birthday for tomorow ! Cheers! Wooooooooooooooo I'm 18!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D

That's excellent...I'm hoping to attend York as a Graduate....its such a beautiful place...when I was in Cambridge...the guy I worked for said that he would drop everything if he could move up there.

Well done! What did you think of Sheffield? I really loved it Everyone seemed really welcoming and friendly as well. My interview was with Roger Doonan, he seemed nice. I have decided that it will be my first choice now so I will hopefully will be going next year, as long as I get those 3 Bs.
